Cold Sores Linked To Causing Schizophrenia
It seems that scientists have come to a shocking find that exposure to cold sores may be the cause of less concentration and brain shrinking. This is a study that was performed by Johns Hopkins scientists that says they now find that the cold sore might be the culprit who is responsible for the cognitive impairment, or more specifically the herpes simplex virus 1.
The idea that a simple problem as the cold sore can lead to such a dangerous illness is nothing less than shocking. Although we must be careful not to jump to any conclusions, it raises my awareness and I will make sure that I stay on top of this problem as more side effects are being unveiled.
It seems that the anti-bodies to the HSV-1 virus (which doesnt do much good anyways, as they cannot prevent it) are the problem which are causing the disease. This is off course good to know, since we know will be able to look at this and find a cure to it, but it still is alarming. Here is the link to the article about it: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/190373.php
I just thought Id share this article with my readers as I found this very disturbing. Hope it helps people realise the dangers of even small problems like cold sores can mount to serious dangers if not taken care of well.
Need A Cold Sore Remedy? – We Have Got 3!
Have you been trying different over-the-counter treatments for cold sores, but never found that cold sore remedy that worked for you? Trust me, you are not the only one. Most of the treatments or products you can buy in stores are only there to give your cold sore relief and shorten its duration, and it will never quite cure it. They may claim to be effective, but you must not be fooled. Here are 5 cold sore remedies that have been proven to work for ages and they can work for you too:
Vitamin Supplements
While this might seem obvious an idea to get a better immune system and thus prevent cold sores, it actually are a lot of people who are not getting the right vitamins, enough or maybe some arent even aware of this idea. This is the most basic cold sore remedy out there and it is a simple one. If you arent eating a balanced and healthy diet (relax, not many people do this, it is hard work), then getting some vitamin supplements to aid you in treating your cold sores might be a wise move.
Vitamin E, in conjunction with zinc and calcium will help shorten the duration a cold sore lasts and it will prevent new fever blisters from breaking out. Vitamin C and B will fight stress problems and boost your immune system. These are the most important vitamins you need, so finding a basic multi-vitamin that contains these and take them daily should give you an edge against the cold sores.
Applying Ice
If you have read some of the posts here at this blog, you know that we go on and on about this neat little trick. But do you know why? Because IT WORKS! If you immediately start your cold sore treatment when you feel a tingling sensation around the mouth area, you will drastically reduce the duration of the sore and the size of the outbreak. Just whip out a few ice cubes, wrap them in a cloth of some sort and hold it onto the spot. Works great. Remember to do this BEFORE the cold sore has broken out, as it wont have much effect after the outbreak.
Garlic Oil
This seem to be a staple in most homes that practice a lot of home remedies, and that is well founded. Garlic is a very powerful medicine against a lot of different infections. The thing is that the garlic penetrates the skin and thus gets through to the root of the problem and fights the virus from the inside. In addition to doing a good job killing the virus, it also keeps the sore fresh and clean.
You can use both garlic gel and real garlic on the cold sore, as long as it is fresh. Fresh garlic juice will do the best job, so just apply the garlic juice onto the sore and let it stay there for as long as you can have it.
These are the methods I use to prevent cold sores from popping up time and again, and it has proven to work very well. If you want another cold sore remedy or want to get rid of cold sores forever, I recommend checking out one of the best cold sore remedies I have ever tried.

Finally A Cure For Cold Sores?
Cold sores are an unfortunate illness that many people suffer from. The blisters shows up when you least need them and they are not avoidable. And the worst part is that once you get it, you will always be prone to get infected again. The virus just lies waiting in your body for the rest of your life. But fear not. Microbiologists at Duke University seem to have discovered a potential cure.
Almost 90% of adulst have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus-1 and thus cold sores. Once it enters the body, it will stay there for the rest of your life, making you prone to get cold sores whenever. There are many triggers to the virus, like stress, exposure to sunlight, getting a fever and so on. The virus usually situates in the cranial nerves, near the spine. After the virus has become active and produced a cold sore, the usual treatment has been the drug acyclovir, also called Zovirax. This hinders the cold sores to replicate and thus limit the outbreak. There has however not been any progress in finding a cure for cold sore, untill now.
Up untill now, the research has just been focusing on keeping the HSV-1 inactive and just try to prevent the cold sore from erupting. But Dr. Bryan Cullen at Duke University has taken another approach. The theory behind the cure is that they want to make the virus active and keep it active. By blocking the microRNA that suppresses the HSV1, the virus will remain active and one can use acyclovir to kill the virus for good. This can later be transferred to cure HSV-2 (genital herpes).

How Do Cold Sore Spread?
You have probably heard of cold sores or the herpes simplex virus which is the medical name for it. This is a contagious skin disease that one gets in the upper regions of the body. The cold sores comes as a group of painful blisters that appear around the mouth area. They are filled with fluid, but quickly dry up and leave a scab that itches like crazy. You can also get herpes simplex virus on the lower region as well, but this is called the type II virus and we won’t focus on these in this article. Read on to find out about how these pestering cold sores spread.
The most common way to spread an cold sore infection is by saliva. Sharing a glass of water, spit or kissing are the main reasons for infecting another person. But there is still other ways to spread these blisters. If someone touch a sore with their hands, they might get the cold sore blisters on their hands and thus its quite easy spreading it to other parts of your body that you touch afterwards. So hands on a cold sore is a big no-no.
Still, there are several other ways one can get a cold sore, and these are all that well known. Did you for example know that some people can carry the virus on their skin for several weeks after they have ridden themselves of the virus? This should not be of any worry as it seldom happens, but it is possible to get a cold sore this way.
What is even more incredible is that some can be carrying the virus in their saliva and/or skin the whole time. They might have been able to adjust their immune system just enough to prevent the virus to be able to infect the person and thus it can carry the virus without even knowing it.
Now it is important to remember that it isnt all that easy to get infected and that one must have been really careless to actually get infected with the virus. It will for example not spread through linen, cloth, towels and such. Its important not to avoid the person who is infected alltogether when they are in need of treatment. If the unthinkable has happened and you get infected, there are several ways to cure your cold sores naturally. Check out Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days for great tips on how to cure your cold sores in no time.
Can Children Have Cold Sores?
One thing that most people fail to realize is that children also are prone to get cold sores. Since we all know that this virus stays in your body for the rest of your life, its very upsetting to get it this early in ones life. Having to experience these at a young age is very unfortunate, bud sadly the possibility is there.
The cause of these cold sores are the virus herpes or the medical name Herpes Simplex. These are one of the most common viral infections in the world and thus many people experience them. There are two types of these viruses. The herpes simplex virus one (or HSV-1 for short) and HSV-2. HSV-1 is the most common of these and mostly these that people have and get cold sores from.
Kids should take the same precautions as adults when around people that have a cold sore. That means avoid kissing or touching the person. You should even refrain from drinking out of the very same glass, using the same utensils, and sharing towels and napkins. There is a high chance for the virus to survive in fabrics, which is why you should be very cautious.
For those who had had experienced cold sores, it is rather hard to tell what could possibly cause them to reappear. The causes vary from one child to another. For these group of children, it might be either because of too much stress and spending too much time in the sun. It could also be getting sick, like coming down with a cold or flu. What the children should do is to eat well, get enough rest. It is up to the parent to take care of these things as kids have lots of other things to think about and won’t think about such things all of the time.
There are still methods to cure cold sores, even with children and they are the same as with adults. The cold sores can be cured with all natural treatments and it doesn’t have to be costly. I recommend checking out Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days which is a product that has helped thousands of people curing their cold sores and never having them again.
Tips For Healing Cold Sores
You all know about the cold sores by now I presume. They come, you curse them and wonder what you have done wrong in this life to deserve this pain. You have gone through this routine many times before and you know it by heart now. First it gets red, then itchy and finally the area puffs into a huge fever blister. There seems to be nothing that can stop these pestering cold sores. But fear not, I have some tips for what you can do to avoid these cold sores.
Protect The Cold Sore With Petroleum Jelly
Cover your cold sore with petroleum jelly. This speeds up the healing process significantly and relieves the pain also. Be sure not to dip back into the jelly with the same finger you used to touch your sore. It would be better to use fresh cotton buds.
Keep The Cold Sore Dry And Don’t Touch It
Rememeber not to touch the sore. This only irritates it and it will take it longer to be able to heal and it will ache even more. If it starts to puss, you should seek medical attention instead of trying to fix it yourself.
Give The Cold Sore A Zinc Treatment
Studies have shown that applying a water mix with zinc on the spot you feel the tingling, before your cold sore has broken out speeds up the healing process by a huge amount. This is because the DNA of the zinc matches up with the herpes virus and thus stops it from splitting up and spreading wider.
Block That Weather Out
One trigger of cold sores are extreme weather and thus you should protect your lips from this. Having a lip balm at hand is key to reduce this problem.
Cut Back Arginine-Rich Foods
The herpes virus needs arginine as an essential amino acid for its metabolism, so cut out foods such as chocolate, cola, peas, grain cereals, peanuts, gelatine, cashews and beer.
There are plenty of ways to get rid of cold sores, and many can be done from your home with all natural methods with no side effects. These methods are explained in Grace Melgarejo’s book Cold Sore Freedom In 3 Days that gives you a plan to be free from cold sores in less than 3 days. This book is simply amazing and the system has worked for thousands of people, including me. I recommend this to anyone having trouble with cold sores and I think you will have the same success I did.
