Cold Sore Treatments
Cold sore treatments are a great interest for all of us. We are all looking for that magical cure that will free us from this virus that continues to show up when we need the least. What one must understand is that the virus cannot be cured nor prevented, but there is ways to reduce their occurens and shorten their stay when you first get them.
Remember that these ideas are mainly my own observations and you should seek a doctor before trying to treat any severe causes of cold sores.
The cold sores usually goes away after a week or two without any treatment, so there is a lot of potential to put down the time that it stays with you. The most important thing is to be ready for the early stages when that initial tingling begins and before the outbreaks comes. If you are fast enough with the cold sore treatment you can severly halt the virus and maybe even stop some of the blisters from even showing up.
There are many cold sore treatments out there and deciding which is best for you is a hard task. Here I will try to list a few of the ones that are available for your cold sores.
Zilactin
This is a gel that are laid over the cold sores to form a protective coat. This product speeds up the healing process as the other products aswell as being pain-relieving. This lasts for up to 6 hours, which is quite good. Just be sure to not peel it of as that will irritate the skin and possibly the cold sore.
Famciclovir
Famciclovir is an antiviral agent which comes in the form of tablets. These will help the blisters from cold sores heal faster aswell as reduce the length and the pain that it causes. In addition, famciclovir is used to reduce the number of times that the virus breaks out.
Novitra
This a form of salve that contains zinc sulfate. This salve has proven to shorten the duration of cold sores and it starts to work immediately. Zinc sulfate absorbs into the cold sore quicker than other forms of salves with only zinc in them. This product is a little costly, but has a proven effect on cold sores.
